As has previously been posted, I am sick of the coverage around 9/11. I however have a slightly different take on the reasons behind the coverage.

More below the fold

I am watching the coverage around the tenth anniversary of 9/11 with a mounting sense of disgust.

Over and over again, I watch planes slam into the twin towers, in high definition. In half an hours time on CNN, I kept count as the footage of the towers being brought down was played repeatedly. Eighteen times in thirty minutes.

Don't get me wrong, 9/11 was a tragedy. A man made disaster of epic proportions that claimed over five thousand lives in a single hour.

Our nations reaction to it however, was wrong. Wrong on just about every level. We were attacked by a scattered group of disparate individuals who succeeded beyond their wildest expectations. America's reaction to this horrible crime was two endless wars, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. We as citizens allowed laws designed to strip away rights guaranteed to us in the constitution. The patriot act, warrentless wiretapping, torture and the list goes on. Trillions of dollars spent overseas on two badly planned, poorly executed and financially disastrous foreign adventures.

Thanks to our tutelage, starting in the eighties, a disparate group has morphed into a battle hardened cause with subsidiaries all over the world. We have failed. Net result is that we are less secure then we were ten years ago.

I am sick of it. The media talks about people forgetting. Humans are designed to forget a traumatic experience. The media will not let us forget. We are constantly reminded of this horrific experience. We are not allowed to put it behind us. 9/11 is used as an excuse to murder beyond our borders without consequence, without mercy and without end. 9/11 is used as an excuse to beggar our working and middle class at home and declare wars without end. It is used as an excuse for a build up in the military industrial complex, that will lead to a Soviet style collapse that will be uniquely American. This is not sustainable, we cannot cut taxes, wage two wars and endlessly bail out our financial sector without dire consequences.

I for one, am sick of this shit.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

nothing to do with our economoci situation. NOTHING! As my dear, very Republican friend J. put it, all these cuts in services and entitlements are long overdue. LIBERALS have been spending the country into oblivion for decades, you see, and it's time to pay the piper. Or something.

Although I disagree that they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. I honestly believe that after fighting the Soviets and learning how the USA responds to terror, OBL had us figured out to a T.

He knew that we would over react- this country acts like a child on the world stage. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. Not only that, but he knew that the MIC would defend the drawn out wars that he would drag the United States into. He knew it damn well that the United States, as a nation, would retreat into fear and act like a wild animal rather than a rational democracy.

If he didn't know this, then maybe. But I think that the leadership of al-Qaeda had profiled their target very well, otherwise they could have kept on bombing embassies and otherwise "small fish" with a smattering of attacks on US military installations (USS Cole) to keep up their recruitment.

But the holy grail was dragging the US into two wars with no end. As long as our leadership can use the fear of al-Qaeda as a last resort to justify the wars, all the terrorists have to do is keep waving their flag and sending out videos. In the mean time, the can terrorize the local population and generally act like the war criminals they are.

They knew we would do the heavy work of chasing phantoms with trillion dollar war budgets and bankrupt the nation both monetarily and morally. We fucked up decided to bill these assholes as crazy rather than the cold-hearted murderers they really are.

The media coverage of this anniversary is just so over the top that, yes, it is terrorism porn. When all else fails scream about 9/11 one more time...

(meanwhile we kill that many civilians all around the world at least once over a year)

What a tragic day, for the US. OBL pushed the "go fucking crazy" button and we went to work destroying ourselves with a gusto that is only seen in America.
