- The First Lady is in town for the U.S. Open and decided to knock the ball around with Serena Williams. Awesome!
- PPP is still in the field for the NY-9 special election on Tuesday. Tom had this to say:
"It's hard for Democrats to win open seat races in places where Obama's that unpopular. Obama's at 50%, I have no doubt Weprin beats Turner comfortably."
National Dems are coming in strong for the final weekend.
- SC Gov. Nikki Haley defended Rick Perry's "ponzi scheme" remark about Social Security. So did Sen. Ron Johnson of WI. National Review:
Johnson, in an interview with National Review Online, says that Perry’s use of the term should not be denounced by fellow Republicans. He points out that in 2010, in a swing state no less, he not only called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme,” but did it in a television ad — and won a Senate seat, toppling progressive hero and Democratic incumbent Russ Feingold.
Perry remarks very much put him in line with the GOP primary voter. That word was tested and Perry wouldn't have doubled-down on it if it didn't work for him.
- Bachmann, however, thinks Perry's position creates an opening.
- USA dings Romney on his flip-flop on green jobs.
- The Union Leader says the Tea Party is more bark than bite. At least in New Hampshire.
- Gov. Rick Scott of Florida may reject funds made to Florida under President Obama's new American Jobs Act. I hope so. That would be a huge, huge gift to Obama.
- Remember that Ohio lady who ended up with a felony conviction for sending her kids to school out of district? Gov. Kasich reduced it to a misdemeanor.
- The Hill notes that Democrats of all stripes are finally on the offensive and appear to be rallying around the president. Looks like using the bully pulpit with a confrontational approach is yielding an early dividend already: Democratic unity.
- I still remember.
