You may have heard the story of Max The Cat’s reluctant rise to fame. Max became famous by no choice of his own when someone in his neighborhood decided to use him as target practice. He was shot through the head with an arrow from a crossbow.
Please follow me below the fold. Warning the photos are disturbing, but please remember Max survived and is doing great.
Though he has recovered completely he is in need of help again. Due to the fact that the suspect, most likely a Jeffrey Dahmer in training, was never caught, Max’s humans are uncomfortable allowing him to roam the neighborhood as he so much loves to do. And here is where the Pootie loving, liberal minded members of Daily Kos may be able to help. Max’s humans are trying to find a rural area for Max to safely roam and call home. Max currently lives in the urban area of Santa Cruz, CA with the rest of his pride Brad, Nancy, Oliver the dog and Sam the cat. To quote Max’s human, “He’s friendly/affectionate, and gets along with dogs and other cats.”
But, “Since then we’ve kept him as an indoor cat and he’s not nearly as happy as he was as an indoor/outdoor cat and has gotten increasingly destructive. He has been naughty, scratched furniture and pee’d on things like the dog’s bed if we confine him to the house for more than a few days. We don’t want to let him out, as we’re afraid he’ll get injured again…but as indoor cat he’s clearly unhappy. We’re looking for a safe home for him where he can be an indoor/outdoor cat.”
Regarding Max’s current health status, he has healed well from the shot to the head and in the words of his human, “He’s 3 years old, healthy and up on his shots – but has an eye problem that makes his left eye create a lot of discharge. When he was little we put him on lots of medication – after trying a few prescriptions the vet told us it’s permanent. Doesn’t seem to affect him at all.”
So, in conclusion, I am turning to my Pootie loving friends on Daily Kos who may live in a rural area of Northern California for help in finding Max a new home. Please feel free to comment or PM me regarding any serious inquiries or advice.
