This is coming late, after the boycott has officially began for me, but I too will join in making a statement. As a young Black woman, I have seen just how detrimental the issue of race has become on a PROGRESSIVE site.
It made clear to me just why the Democratic movement has struggled to build a sense of cohesiveness and community between the incredibly diverse groups which represent black and brown and asian people, gay rights, environmental issues, criminal justice, equality for all...
This community has never seemed to understand the fact that no one is expendable, if we hurt one we hurt all, and above all just how pervasive the use of white privilege is on this site. How can we build community with those diverse groups if we as a site push those "others" away with relish and rely so much on the white perspective as the end all be all?
The answer is: we can't. This is going off on a tangent but America will never be made whole if it doesn't understand that the issues of the Black community (and Latino, and gays, and people who live in environmental justice neighborhoods--the list goes on) are the issues of the AMERICAN community. It affects us all, as I have said here http://myblackcoffee.com/... and until America realizes that, we, as a country, cannot succeed.
In solidarity.
