That's right, a Major Federal Bridge In Kentucky is CLOSED Indefinitely Due To Structural Cracks.
The morning after President Obama gave his Jobs Plan Speech to a Joint Session of Congress the Governor of Indiana closed the Bridge in both directions because structural cracks were found in the bridge.
Now Will Mitch McConnell & Rand Paul get the rest of the GOP to Support Infrastructure Spending?
Officials in Kentucky and Indiana called the "cracks incredibly serious and potentially catastrophic."
I have to add this comment from "G2Geek" who wrote:
Bridge Closed: Your Tax Cuts At Work
That Bridge is a Federal Bridge that spans from Indiana to Kentucky and its where Interstate Commerce is it's prime purpose
Will Rand Paul and/or Mitch McConnell change their opposition to infrastructure spending?
UPDATE
This morning, Jeffersonville, Indiana Mayor Tom Galligan told a Kentucky Newspaper that two other Bridges, the Kennedy Bridge and Clark Memorial Bridge, would provide the Detour Route Between Kentucky and Indiana
"The Kennedy and Clark Memorial bridges are not designed to handle this much traffic, but we've got no other alternatives," ~ Mayor Galligan
This morning was the first work day after the Bridge closure and local reports state:
Officials were given the weekend task of mapping out detours for the 80,000 vehicles that cross the Sherman Minton every day.
Officials in Kentucky and Indiana called the cracks incredibly serious and potentially catastrophic.
I called Senator Mitch McConnell's office and Senator Rand Paul's office for comment on the bridge closing and neither one of the Senator's office wanted to talk about the Bridge closure
From Senator McConnell's office - the girl who answered the phone said that "Mitch McConnell has no statement on the bridge closing but would pass along any message to the Senator."
McConnell DC Phone: (202) 224-2541
A message was left in McConnell's Press Secretary's (Robert Steurer) voice mail - but his office has not returned the phone call.
From Senator Rand Paul's office - the girl who answered the phone said that Senator Paul might or might not be aware of the Bridge closing but that no federal funding would be used to fix the bridge because "we have no money for the bridge project"
Rand Paul's DC Phone: (202) 224-4343
How do ya like that, Rand Paul's receptionist said, "we have no money for the bridge project."
Sounds to me like Rand Paul's office is admitting the USA has a REVENUE Problem - hmm ... I wonder if they thought of ending the Bush Tax Cuts to INCREASE Revenue?
Or maybe they (Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell) could END the over $92 Billion Taxpayer Cash/Subsidies given YEARLY to Big Corporations who post record profits and who also ship US Jobs to Overseas sweatshops?
The amount, $92Billion is a 2007 value that CATO Institute reported on when they issued a report suggesting Congress END Corporate Welfare. The link is a PDF link and for the record, CATO Institute is a rightwinged alleged "think tank."
Finally, someone should educate Rand Paul's staff that when a Federal Bridge has cracks and must close so no one dies - is not defined as a "Project." In fact, in the 1824 Supreme Court Case: Gibbons v. Ogden, the Supreme Court ruled that the power to regulate interstate commerce encompassed the power to regulate interstate navigation ... which would included increasing Revenue to pay for the structural damage that the 50 year old Federal Bridge in Kentucky is enduring right now.
