Yep, the Repubs have been shouting about how much money can be saved by clamping down on waste and abuse in government. You know, that famous $700 hammer for the military and the god knows how expensive toilet seat. And finally, the Obama administration is listening to them. And they are listening well. Look at what the Obama administration is going after. Ah, no, it's not the military. It's programs dear to the heart of the Repubs:
The White House is planning to crack down on waste and fraud in government spending, targeting Medicaid and unemployment-insurance benefits, among other areas, Obama administration officials announced Wednesday. One plan to uncover waste and fraud in Medicaid was detailed by the Health and Human Services Department, which estimated it would save taxpayers an estimated $2.1 billion over the next five years. In addition, a program to curtail improper emergency unemployment-insurance payments was announced by the Labor Department. The agency is also awarding $192 million to 42 states to streamline collection of unemployment claims data. The announcements came at a cabinet meeting chaired by Vice President Joe Biden. He asked officials to report back to him on wasteful and inefficient spending on travel, auto fleets, and office equipment, including cell phones and software.
Guess the Repubs won't criticize Obama anymore about coddling those lazy poor and unemployed.
