Please, sign our petition with Senator Jeff Merkley telling the Super Committee to have its budget package scored by the Congressional Budget Office for its impact on jobs.
AFSCME is up with a new ad supporting the American Jobs Act:
The ad makes the intuitive case that the best way to shrink the deficit is by creating more jobs. Greg Sargent reports that this is a "significant six figure" campaign, and not merely an attempt to score free media hits. It coincides with a letter (PDF), signed by dozens of organizations, urging the Super Committee to focus on job creation measures.
Additionally, Jeff Merkley's office confirms that 11 senators have signed onto his proposal urging the Super Committee to have its budget package scored by the Congressional Budget Office for its impact jobs. While that is not a huge total, it is a start. Even though the Super Committee is unlikely to adopt a CBO score on jobs as part of its formal rules, keep in mind that you do not need a majority of senators, or even a majority of the Super Committee, in order to make this CBO score happen. One relevant member of the committee leadership might even be enough.
These remain rearguard actions, but we simply have no choice option but to keep pushing. Please, sign our petition with Senator Jeff Merkley telling the Super Committee to have its budget package scored by the CBO for its impact on jobs.
