I'm still somewhat obsessed by this witless piece of legislation called the Budget Control Act of 2011, that was supposed to cause President Obama political trouble as the Republicans played their trump Kamikaze card of threatened default. The Boehner-McConnell debt limit gambit that was intended to force the Democrats into submission was badly designed and poorly executed. In the froth to "cut and cap," the Republicans cut more and capped defense spending by about $150 billion less than what they intended.
Somebody forgot to include the costs of Afghanistan and Iraq in the spending limits for FY 2012 in the Budget Control Act of 2011. This fact is slowly sinking in. By the end of October there should be a steady stream of Republicans screaming bloody flux, they need more money. You can read more here, and here. No doubt Congressional Republicans will pretend that nothing is wrong. They should not be allowed to get away with it.
This is the headline,"Republicans can't fund FY 2012 defense without raising the spending cap they insisted upon in August."
