"WE, the 99% are hereby taking action against the greed and corruption of the richest 1%; the bankers, politicians, and corporate persons that govern our nation. Like our brothers and sisters in Tunisia, Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to harness the power of mass occupation to restore democracy and justice in America. We reject the economic violence perpetrated against the peoples of the world and encourage the use of nonviolent means to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants. We do this for the unemployed, the elderly, the foreclosed, the indebted college student, for the future of the children, and for our fellow working citizens who have been unjustly denied their equal human and financial rights by a system run by, and for, the richest 1%."
Calling all Saint Louis area kossacks, please head over to OccupySTL on facebook and sign up to help. There is a list of needed supplies and teams where you can sign up to help, under the squiggly is the latest facebook post detailing where we are at and what we need.
"Ok everyone, we have a semi-finalized list of what assistance we need to have ready before the event on Saturday. I have divided this into two categories: supplies and teams. Our supply list, which is in no way complete and will surely expand as the days go on, is a basic idea of the general stuff we will need to have ready. The teams list is a rundown of the roles that need to be filled to make sure that the demonstration happens as efficiently, effectively and safely as possible. So, here we go...
Supplies:
We will need food and water. Very basic.
We will need general first aid supplies.
We will need batteries (AA are always great, may need others, will update later).
We will need flyers printed out for those attending. If you are able, please print extras and bring them with you.
Teams:
Communications-this entails disseminating information about the event, posting flyers, etc.
Police Liaison-this requires keeping in touch with the police on the ground and coordinating with the group to address their requests.
Legal Observation-we need people who will not be demonstrating to document any interaction with the police and take the names of any who are arrested.
Legal Assistance-this will require someone to receive calls from anyone who is arrested while they are in custody. A landline is preferable, as there may be restrictions on dialing cell phones from detention. Also needed are attorneys who can assist those in custody with legal questions/issues.
Supply Lines-this will require maintaining a list of what supplies we have on hand, what we need and transporting stuff between the demonstration site and the occupation site.
Security-these people will keep tabs on anyone in the crowd who becomes aggressive or violent and find a proper resolution.
Media-this will mean being the point person for media interviews, requests for statements, etc. Also needed are people with experience in PR who can write press releases and make contact with journalists/bloggers.
Transportation-making sure that people get from site to site.
Facilitation/Planning-this is the team that will plan and open the assemblies, figure out basic logistics and coordination and handle problems as they arise.
Please contact us if you can donate or wish to sign up with one of these teams. Pass along anything we have missed here so that it can be added before Saturday. We go forward together!"
