Northeast Sustainable Energy Association’s annual Green Buildings Open House and the American Solar Energy Society’s (ASES) National Solar Tour, helps kick off National Energy Awareness Month on Saturday, October 1. The Green Buildings Open House is a day when homes, businesses, and schools invite the public inside to investigate the renewable technologies and green building features being employed. The goal of the open house is to enable participants to see energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements in their communities and motivate them to adopt similar solutions for their own homes. Participants are able to talk with home and business owners, ask questions, and see how their renewable energy technologies actually work.

For those who are curious about solar power and how it works, Boston Building Resources in Roxbury Crossing will offer a behind-the-scenes look at its solar electricity system on “Solar Saturday,” October 1. Tours of the system, led by a solar installation designer, will be offered every hour starting at 10:00 with the last tour beginning at 1:00. Each tour will include time for questions and answers. Tours are free and preregistration is not needed. Boston Building Resources is a local business offering home improvement supplies with a focus on environmental sustainability.
