On Saturday morning in Tucson, AZ, a tragedy occurred when a lone gunman attempted to assassinate Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), and in the process killed six and injured 14 others.
This, of course, is not new information. And, in the light of the violent rhetoric that has been a commonplace fixture from today’s fringe conservative right, it is no surprise to us of the more realistic political side of the debate.
Despite her very outspoken disdain for those who use teleprompters, after days of silence, she gave in and used one in her video response. No time to just wing it I imagine.
In her teleprompter facilitated video response she quotes Reagan:
"It's time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions,"
I never knew that the “American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions”, had been lost on the American people. That we had strayed so very far from the understanding of what it is to be an American, to be self reliant, and to take personable responsibility for our actions. Of course we have not!
Or, is it more reasonable to assume that she was referring to those people that don’t live in “real America”? You know those people; they are the same people who hate America, who are commie’s, who may have been born in Kenya.
We know who she is pointing her defensive finger at when she says these things. Yet, what she would never say aloud is that she is padding her political future as much as she can. For the love of god, the woman used 86 words dealing with the family and their grief, while using 1055 words to wrap herself up in the flag for the sake of her political future.
So how does that help a 9-year old child, not to mention the other five killed, and 14 wounded in the shooting? It doesn’t whatsoever!
Yes, "each individual is accountable for his actions" is a completely acceptable perspective to hold. Yet, we band together as a society, so that we may be protected from such actions. As Cicero stated when speaking on the subject of Law, “We are in bondage to the law so that we might be free”.
The likes of Palin and her cohorts would rather that we have no laws restricting American freedom, rather than laws which are constructed for the betterment and security of all Americans. Here we should specifically read GUN LAWS.
But when you listen to the words she spews, you must really wonder what goes on in the head of America’s “caribou Barbie”. She has held her level of political rhetoric so high, yet so simple.
I read these quotes below, and I cannot help but think of what may come from such a vile and despicable “American”. These quotes, seem to be ones that you or I would hear if we were in a private meeting with Palin and her minions.
Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.
The broad masses of a population are more amenable to the appeal of rhetoric than to any other force.
The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category.
By the skilful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise
It is always more difficult to fight against faith than against knowledge.
I use emotion for the many and reserve reason for the few.
The sad thing about these quotes, however, is that they were not muttered by the ugliness which is Sarah Palin, but by a far viler and disgusting human. They were said…wait for it…by Adolph Hitler.
The self victimization that Palin employs whenever possible, to avoid any personal responsibility, is strikingly reminiscent of past world leaders bent on self promotion, and her veiled rebuking that her violent rhetoric would have any effect on such a tragic action.
By pointing at the media as attempting to mete out blame for ANY attempt to understand what may have caused such a aweful tragedy, she says:
After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to the irresponsible statements from people attempting to apportion blame for this terrible event.
It is not the same, yet for me, it smells very much like the finger pointing Hitler used when he accused the Jews with the burning of the Reichstag, which by the way, Hitler orchestrated himself.
