Good morning, we are going to try a few things today. Its a potpourri of ideas to help us deal with the stressful work week and to open ourselves up to a wonderful weekend.
The first thing is breathe deep....in and out....5 times. Straighten up your back, stretch your neck, relax your shoulders.
Saturday is my day to share some postive ways for dealing with the stresses of life. Trying to quit smoking is a biggie. I hope that with this yoga series someone can benefit from my methods for dealing with life's challenges in a positive way. Let me know what you think.
GUS (Gave Up Smoking) is a community support diary for Kossacks in the midst of quitting smoking. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are quitting or thinking of quitting, please -- join us! We kindly ask that politics be left out.
You can also click the GUS tag to view all diary posts, or access the GUS Library at dKosopedia for a great list of stop-smoking links. Check it out! GUS Library
A message to ALL quitters. You don't have to avoid GUS if you have a failed quit. We won't give you a bad time and we consider the failed quits as "practice" for the real quit.
First our yoga pose of the day. Its a nice one.
Nataraja-asana
The King of the Dance Pose: The Sanskrit word nata means dancer and raja means king. Nataraja is another name for Shiva, the Lord of the Dance, whose cosmic dance is the creation and destruction of the world.
Make sure that if you try this pose, you try it on both right and left sides, your weaker side will be obvious but that's good because it will help strengthen it.
Ok, let's learn a few mudras.
Sit in your meditation pose..
Take your deep breaths.
Buddha Mudra
Receptivity. The Buddha symbolizes being humble and learning to be grateful. Palms are open to receive gifts.
How to form the Buddha mudra:Both palms open. Rest one hand inside the other hand's open palm. Thumb tips are touching (traditionally, right hand rests on left for men, left on right for women).
Bhutadamar Mudra
Protection - Wards Off Evil. The Bhutadamar mudra serves as a shield keeping negative energies away.
How to form the Bhutadamar mudra: Palms are facing outwards away from the body. Wrists are crossed. Ring fingers are placed down toward the palms.
Ok, your chakras, there are many in the body, but for now we will only talk about the 7 main chakras that line up your body.
The seven main chakra centers are aligned along the spinal column. If there are disturbances on any level, this shows in the chakra’s vitality level. Each of the seven main chakras is their own intelligence center. This means that each chakra is not only associated with our physical health but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief system.
First take this quiz to see how your chakras are.....
Chakra test
Then you can go here and find what poses will help you open those closed chakras
chakra mudras
Ok, that is enough for today. I'm sure this was either interesting or not, but either way, I'm glad you are here. I enjoy sharing the things that helped me through stressful times. It might work for you.
Namaste.
