Direct Action
As a child of the 60's, I love seeing the growth of groups using direct action, ie Arab Spring, Wisconsin, and now #OccupyWallsStreet.
Where's MoveOn?
In the comments in one diary on Occupy Wall Street I saw commenter that asked where MoveOnwas?
Grass Roots Organizing Depends on You
MoveOn groups have been organizing themselves using MoveOn digital tools, across the nation for some time on various issues. My wife and I have participated in demonstrations in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
Issues include Jobs, protecting the social safety net, tax policy and on HIR, including direct actions on the street that we have taken part in.
Not your issue. Guess what:
Have An Idea For A Campaign?
With the new SignOn.org, change begins with you.
Start your own Petition now
Want something more than petitions? Here's an idea:
Petitions can be a first step toward gathering participants for more direct action. Fact. But what if you want to do more, sooner?
Contact MoveOn and start a local group in your area and multiply the power of direct action on any number of issues.
You think Wall Streets trumps all else? Go for it!
How MoveOn works
As you know, annual surveys of the millions of MoveOn members help to choose issues and set the group's agenda. Digital tools are used to help groups organize and take coordinated action nation wide.
May not be my most important issue but....Its all good!
We joined MoveOn because of the former focus on ending the occupations. We are in the minority of members now and that issue is not longer a central focus.
However, there are many other groups we belong to that still focus on ending the occupations.
Plenty of work, Pick and Choose
As we all know there are plenty of progressive issues needing action, a number of which MoveOn works on. We have been to Senator's offices because of MoveOn, rallied in front of Big Insurance, etc. Its all good.
Old Santa Fe
For example, I'm in Santa Fe,NM and though I wish I could be there, I won't be going to NYC. :)
What can I do?
You may be like me, looking for SOMETHING to do from where you are?
Some will be able to do more than others, but we all can do something, right?
Facebook, Facepalm
I was one of those who resisted getting on Facebook. Now that I'm there, I am in touch with friends and relatives, a number of whom are NOT progressive. Whoa, what happened. Little did I know that I was going to High School with some people who would later turn out to be wingnuts! (Of course they probably are saying the same, look at him, who would have thought he would have turned out to be left of Lenin?)
Moveon:
Share, Like And Share Alike
If millions of us share progressive stuff with our friends, we'll reach more people than FOX News.
MoveOn's suggestion today:
Share This Facebook Status If You Stand With Protesters Worldwide
He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it. -MLK

Hey Buddy, Can You Spare Some Change ?
Got a few bucks to support a progressive ad, like this one?
Yuh.
"It's yore thang, do what you want to do..."
Give money to #OccupyWallStreet, give money to MoveOn, or no money, give time and energy and physical presence. Organize, organize, organize.
Where's MoveOn?
People interested in the group's chosen issues can organize their own local self governing groups using MoveOn's digital organizing tools....
