On Saturday, Oct 1, 2011, we marched with the Occupy Wall Street hordes from Liberty Park, up Broadway and to the Brooklyn Bridge. At the entrance to the bridge, tons of people headed up the traffic lanes, and the police did nothing to stop them. We almost joined that stream, but at the last minute, decided to take the pedestrian walkway. Since I had my video camera, I didn't want to lose it in case of arrest – though it wasn't really clear what fate the roadway marchers would encounter. And it turned out, the roadway led to certain arrest. The police formed a blockade almost halfway across the bridge, and then brought up the rear with more police, blocking any chance to turn around.
