As unions and community groups
pile on their support for Occupy Wall Street, grassroots support continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
According to a website called CollectiveDisorder.com there are now over 550,000 likes on Facebook for over 200 Occupy Wall Street solidarity events across the United States.
With the help of TechPresident, Collective Disorder is basing this total on the list of local Occupy Wall Street solidarity Facebook groups posted on Daily Kos yesterday. The total is updated every four hours, and the most recent update was at 12:00 PM ET today.
When Collective Disorder began counting the Facebook likes at 8:00 PM ET last night, Tech President reported the total was Facebook 385,000 likes. As such, the growth rate has exceeded 40% in well under a day.
Grassroots solidarity with Occupy Wall Street is manifesting itself in other ways, too. Donations are pouring in from around the world. Also, scores of colleges are either currently experiencing, or expected to experience, solidarity walk-out events at noon local time.
It just keeps getting bigger. Please, check out the list of nationwide solidarity events, and log into Facebook to join the group near you. We will be adding Canadian events to the list later today.
Update: It turns out that much of the growth from 385,000 to 550,000 was from the addition of new pages, a fact which was not clear at the time of publication of this article. As of 4:20 PM ET, Collective Disorder now separately lists the original 200 Facebook groups at 434,618 likes, and over 250 new Facebook pages at 138,072 likes.
