In light of tonight's arrests and the reports rolling in as we speak I have rushed the following video to publish.
September 24th
Tonight
It is part of a reconstruction of the events documenting the (mis)use of force that I have been working on and I had intended on publishing later a more comprehensive analysis of the police actions. Included in this is the discovery that central to the original kettling on 12th Street on September 24th was the involvement of the NYPD's Counterterrorism Unit.
The following video clip is clear evidence of the central role this unit played in the kettling and the events that followed.
A uniformed member of the Counterterrorism unit is here seen stopping the group of young women who were subsequently surrounded by orange netting, because they obeyed his orders and those of the officers around him, and remained on the sidewalk on East 12th Street.
A few minutes later, penned into that area, these women were subjected to the unilateral attack which has now become notorious by Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna.
The very idea itself combined with this evidence and the role of this unit in tonight's physicality should raise serious questions about why this unit is being deployed with regard to peaceful citizens exercising fundamental civil rights and participating as nothing more than active and concerned citizens.
Should this unit be involved in these events and is their involvement any clue as to why things have gotten out of hand on at least a few documented occasions.
