Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian has announced January 14, 2012, as the new date for the Nevada GOP caucuses.
At the end of last month the Florida Republican party move up it’s primary date, leap frogging over four other States that hold caucuses and primaries before any other States.
The original dates and States were, Iowa caucuses on February 6, New Hampshire primary on February 14, Nevada caucuses on February 18, and the South Carolina primary on February 28. Now that has all changed because of Florida moving up their date. Iowa has traditionally held the first GOP caucus and New Hampshire has traditionally held the first GOP primary.
The New Hampshire State GOP bylaws say that their primary must be held at least seven days before the next contest, which means that New Hampshire’s primary will be held no later then January 7, 2012. And Iowa comes before that. South Carolina has already moved its primary date to January 21, 2012. Which leaves Iowa’s caucus date, that has not been announced yet, but it will take place sometime before January 7.
Nevada Presidential Caucus Moved to January 14th, 2012
Las Vegas – Nevada’s First in the West Presidential Caucus has officially been moved to January 14th, 2012, Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian announced today.
“I’m extremely pleased to finally have a firm date for a caucus that will greatly improve Nevada’s standing and relevance in terms of national politics,” Tarkanian said. “By establishing this date, we maintain Nevada’s standing as one of the first four ‘carve-out’ states and as the very first in the west.”
The date of Nevada’s caucus was thrown into turmoil when Florida, in violation of agreed-upon rules, moved its primary to January, causing the four carve-out early states, Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada to scramble to find new dates to maintain the agreed-upon order.
“This is absolutely in the best interest of our state,” Tarkanian said. “We are in the process of creating a caucus that will energize Republicans throughout Nevada and the west, and allow us to play a major role in deciding who will carry the fight to unseat Barack Obama and his destructive policies.”
The Republican Presidential nomination process is now just around the corner, right after Christmas, and the only gifts the candidates will be looking for will be votes. And if you had hoped that your holiday’s would be free of politics, then you will be disappointed.
