My first rally in . . . uh . . . a heck of a long time. The OccupyTampa was Oct 6, at the Gaslight Park in downtown Tampa. The organizers announced an attendance of about 600, my estimate was 700-750, the local news estimated about 1,000. Mostly college kids, but also a few old ex-hippies like me, and some business-types and soccer moms with kids. The facilitators/organizers all sounded like black-bloc anarchists, and while it can sometimes be entertaining watching anarchists try to run a meeting, this was remarkably well-organized. I was impressed by the energy and enthusiasm from everyone there. If this is the future of the progressive movement, I'm happy. :)
Alas, the largest group there seemed to be the Paulite libertarian loonies, and the 9-11 Truthers also showed up.
