Rick Perry effusively thanked anti-Mormon pastor Robert Jeffress for his "rousing" introduction
So Rick Perry's spokesman has
issued a one-sentence statement semi-distancing himself from criticism leveled against Mitt Romney by Robert Jeffress, the anti-Mormon pastor who
introduced Perry at today's Values Voter Summit:
“The governor does not believe Mormonism is a cult,” campaign press secretary Mark Miner said in a one-sentence statement.
Miner also said the Perry campaign had not selected Jeffress, but what they didn't say spoke volumes:
Miner did not respond to questions about whether Perry disavowed Jeffress’ comments or his endorsement.
As you can see in the video above, Jeffress questioned Romney's faith in everything but name, contrasting Romney's beliefs with Perry's born-again faith. In light of the fact that Perry warmly embraced that introduction when it was delivered, I think we already know the answer that question: Perry loved it.
