George W. Bush, who
famously declared that how history would judge him over the Iraq war didn't matter because, "We'll all be dead," has changed his tune in response to finding out that
only one in three vets thinks the wars were worth fighting.
Now the former president is saying:
"I hope history proves them wrong."
"The only way for there to be peace is for free societies to emerge. And, you know, history takes a while to unfold," he told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff in an exclusive interview yesterday. "I happen to think it was worth fighting. Otherwise, I wouldn't have put them into combat."
Arrogant to the end, telling veterans, many of whose lives and families have been totally shattered by the Bush/Cheney adventure game, that they just have to wait history out to find out if their sacrifice was worth it. I'm sure those words from their former commander in chief will make all the difference.
