Give me 9! Give me a 9! Give me a 9! What's that spell? 9-9-9! (Phelan Ebenehack/Reuters)
Public Policy Polling. 10/7-10. Republicans. MoE 4.5%. (9/8-11 and 8/18-21 results).
How many times have we seen this before? Another front-runner leapfrogs a steady-as-he-goes Mitt Romney and the previous frontrunner tumbles down. Meanwhile, Paul, Huntsman and Santorum fail to show any life whatsoever.
There's no real indication that things will stop being such a jumble anytime soon; just three in ten supporters of both Cain and Romney say they are committed to their candidate. Half of Perry's backers say they're committed, but he's got fewer backers.
But even though this poll is guaranteed to change, it's got to make fundraising much easier for both Cain and Romney, and tougher for Perry. It'd be foolish to count him out (in fact, I still think he'll be the nominee), but if he keeps on getting 3rd and 4th place finishes in polls, his money is going to dry up.
