Big Doins' in the OP
October, Glorious October. Is there a better month in the Old Pueblo ? The heat moderates, the evenings are cool and outdoor events are going on all over town. This weekend is a prime example and it's sure to be a good one. Of course, it starts tomorrow with Occupy Tucson. Organizers expect people to start showing up at Armory Park at 9am and the General Assembly will start deciding things at 10 or so. Moveon wants folks to show up for a Labor rally at the Community Center that same day. When they emailed me about it, I replied that maybe the moveon people should consider going over to Armory Park. That's where the crowd will be.
Also starting tomorrow, at venues scattered around the downtown area, is the annual Tucson Meet Yourself. This is always a good way to blow a wad of cash, and put on a few lbs., sampling ethnic delicacies from every nationality that has members in Tucson. Tucson Eat Yourself will have all kinds of music too. This year Baja Kossack Bisbonian will be one of the performers. You can catch him at 2pm at the Old Courthouse. And if that ain't enough, the annual Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Festival will take place on Sunday at the Reid Park Band Shell.

Tragedy at Tres Palmas
So, we bought a creosote bush in the spring. Ya' gotta' have a creosote bush right ? I mean, nothing says Tucson like the smell of creosote in the rain. It was a bit stressed when we put it in, but after the monsoons it was thriving, lots of beautiful green leaves. Now, there was an anthill nearby. The ants and the plant coexisted fine for a couple of months. Then, a couple of days ago, I went out in the morning and damned if the ants hadn't eaten 3/4 of the leaves off my creosote bush. Naturally, I declared war on the ants. I went full chemical on 'em, hosing down the entrance to their hole with some wasp killer I had lying around and then following up with some baits that the scouts are supposed to take down and feed to their evil queen, la gran puta de hormigas. All she ever does is sit down there laying eggs and when the biatch dies so does the colony. So far so good. I haven't seen any ants since then. We're hoping that the baby creosote recovers.
The Movement Spreads
I spent some time in the boonies today. On the way out there we stopped to begin the occupation of yet another town.
That's me there in the Budyenny hat. I don't have a Civil War kepi like MoT, but I thought this was close enough. The Budyenny hat was worn by the Red Army in the 20s and 30s. It was named after a Tsarist cavalry officer that Iosef Vissarionovich took a liking to. Budyenny never was purged, though I believe he was relieved of command because of a poor showing against the Wermacht. We didn't have time for a long occupation, but we planted the seed. We'll see if it takes off.
Well, that's all I got tonight. Who all's goin' downtown tomorrow ? Talk to me.
