Here’s a followup to “Gender Equity Now” from last week – Two Things:
One: The MAIN reason that women aren’t yet at parity with men is CHILD-BEARING. We men cant do it yet, and until we do, there is NO WAY a competitive business management slot can be “temporarily filled” FOR THREE MONTHS OR MORE AND STILL MAKE PROGRESS IN RESULTS – IT’S JUST NOT POSSIBLE!
So while I believe that equal pay for equal responsibility should be the “norm,” I still love that we all procreate together, men AND women, and women have been at THIS DISADVANTAGE SINCE TIME BEGAN, and it needs acknowledgement:
EQUAL UNDER THE LAW, YET DIFFERENT BY GENDER, and Thank Goodness!
“Viva las differencias” as I like to say in NoCali… I want you to make the same money as me. I want you to rise through the ranks, but YOU CAN’T HAVE KIDS IN THE MIDDLE OF IT, AND ONLY WOMEN BEAR YOUNG. The organization “suffers” in your absence, financially because your specific abilities are “gone” from the business for three months, EVEN AS THE “LAW” PROTECTS YOUR LEAVE, as it should...
Morale-wise, because the entire team below you is running on a “temporary manager.” This ALL sucks but it is the biological reality of the species.
Two: I didn’t think it through, so I take back this part of it: I can see where a boss might become prejudiced in choosing a grown man over a smaller women to be a cop or fire fighter, etcetera – AND THAT CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO OCCUR, so how about this?
We KEEP the word “woman” in the Federal Discrimination Laws, but we amend them so that the field is level for men and women who have achieved at least a Bachelor’s degree by American standards of Education.
Female college graduate? No free ride. Some poor woman trying to get a good, “blue collar” union job to support herself, maybe a family? The Anti-Discrimination Titles still apply for her. Remember, it’s not whether the man or woman HAS a 4-year degree or not, it’s whether the POSITION REQUIRES IT.
Simple - Do you like this better? Then let’s get it on the books.
