The City of Surrey, B.C., (in Canada) is hosting a Regional Economic Summit this weekend at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel.
So, of course, they had to hire some experts to speak.
So who did they get to speak?
Bill Clinton.
And George W. Bush.
(more after the little squiggle)
George W. Bush!?
To speak at a regional economic conference? For a reported $150,000 fee?
Tickets $599?
Sold out long ago.
Unbelievable.
Not everybody is happy to have Bush visit here (including me). I am embarrassed that that Bush is 20 miles from my home right now. Ashamed and embarrassed that he is being paid to talk about economics when his policies did so much damage to the North American/worldwide economy and hurt so many innocent people.
The Canadian Centre for International Justice is filing a complaint for criminal torture against Bush this morning in a Canadian court. Various organizations have called for Bush to be arrested when he's in Canada, including Lawyers Against War and Amnesty International.
(Dick Cheney was shaking his moneymaker in Vancouver last month, and didn't get a great reception).
The local constabulary (the RCMP) has closed off two blocks in front of the hotel (the Sheraton Guildford) where Bush is speaking as I type. Media are not allowed to hear his speech. (Why not?)
This picture was taken just as protestors started to gather this morning.
Call to action last night, at the #OccupyVancouver site:
Folks from #OccupyVancouver are joining up with #OccupySurrey today (they're about 20 miles apart); the crowd's already getting larger.
I will update as I get more info (and unfortunately, I am not there; waiting for knee surgery!)
