I have a pretty good idea of what's going to dominate both Countdown & Rachel's show tonight; allow me to introduce Mark Fiore's brilliance on 1 of the stories. :D
And, here's an image to duck tail the aforementioned brilliance!
Let's get historical. On October 20, 1973, in the so-called Saturday Night Massacre, President Nixon abolished the office of special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox, accepted the resignation of Attorney General Elliot L. Richardson and fired Deputy Attorney General William B. Ruckelshaus. And, an "old friend" mentioned in a diary the other day was the one who was willing to fire Mr. Cox. In an item that I'm sure my Dad thinks should be a national sparkin' holiday & that Mr. Keith should appreciate, Mickey Mantle was born on this date in 1931. Here's your humble diarist getting ready to "go long" with 1 of Mr. Mantle's bats at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory!
Finally, the woman who introduced a whole lot of "trouble makers" into my life, is an award - winning poet, and who read at my wedding is celebrating a birthday today; happy birthday to Alice Friman! :D
Let's Countdown...
#5 "Occupy Day 34" AKA "Occupy Wall Street" - The Teamsters were in Zucotti Park today. Some protestors were outside of MOMA today & outside of Wally World's NYC office. Drummers are moving out of the park. Their legal advisors are investigating claims of those accusing the protestors of anti - Semitic behavior & just where they got their "source material." The poor Inspector Baloney that maced 4 trapped defenseless women is playing the victim card. He's been fined 2 weeks pay, and the Manhatten DA is investigating possible criminal charges. And, some alien kidnapped the real Rep. Paul Ryan! ;) 4 protestors in MN were arrested. Occupy efforts in Oakland are going rather well, thank you very much! 35 protestors were arraigned in Des Moines today; 1 of them defending his actions with some gusto! :D Rep. Jerrold Nadler's district includes Zucotti Park. There have been some complaints from neighbors, but issues are being dealt with as best as they can be. Rep. Nadler's been supportive from the very beginning. :) Zucotti Park is public space privately owned? How the spark does THAT happen?! I heard the explanation, and I still don't get it. Can some of y'all 'splain that to me like I'm 4? Thanks! :) Protestors are really trying to be apolitical to this point, but their actions may in fact create political change. I think that change is more likely to happen if they REMAIN apolitical. I've got too short a fuse these days to chance sitting through Michael Moore, so feel free to fill in the details in the comments.
#4 "In Their Deep Pockets?" AKA "Paying Dividends?" - OK, I gotta back up the 'ol DVR machine to get these financial donation numbers from big money 'cause I'm confused - again. O...K...the lovely chart tonight included big money donations to the DNC! THAT makes some sense - sadly.
"Time Marches On!" - I almost mentioned Bela Lugosi's birthday! :D A dog with a big 'ol stick ain't smart enough to navigate through a tree. ;) A left coast anchor had to wake up Harry Belafonte for an interview - or meditating. Hell, he can do whatever the spark he wants; he's earned it!
#3 "No Credit" - Colonel Kodaffy's sleeping with the fishes or something, but that just ain't good enough for some in the GOBP. And, we're surprised to learn of the latest instance of GOBP BRILLIANCE why? Senator Marco Rubio praised the French? THE FRENCH?! Well, he probably doesn't enjoy the occasional Freedom Fry, either - pinko commie! ;D Senator McCentury might be just a little broken hearted unless he's named in the Colonel's will to get some choice swag. Bill Press gets KIA Kodaffy & GOBP response duty. Did y'all see some of those death photos? NOT for the weak stomached if you've not seen them, so bear that in mind! Will President Obama make what happened in Libya in addition to OBL in addition to a whole host of "war on terror" victories part of his campaign? He sure as $hit should! Y'all don't think a GOBP with the same record wouldn't?! I still think a bumper sticker with the red circle & mark through OBL with "Obama 2012" on it would be FABOO! Senator Rubio may have "embellished" the story of his parents exit from Cuba. Mr. Press thinks this fib will REALLY hurt him. Well, the American public at large & especially people who voted for Marco Rubio have rather short attention spans, so I think he'll survive this. I don't think he's up for re - election for awhile, so there's plenty of time for this fib to be forgotten.
WPITW - Harrisburg's mayor had asked for prayer in a budget crisis; they've had to file for bankruptcy. Does this mean Gawd doesn't like Harrisburg or just doesn't care for her? Senator Waterloo wants to inhibit abortion discussion on the intertubes or video conferences. Some SC state legislator dude was good & honest about SC's horrible new voter ID law.
#1 "Republican Follies" - "Herb" Cain thinks homosexuality is a choice, but he thinks he's a damn enlightened dude. Teh black doesn't wash off? Has he seen that scene from Blazing Saddles? It has been tried! :) Ryan Lizza gets "Herb" duty. 'Ol "Herb" has a double secret plan for the economy that he won't reveal unless he wins POTUS. Gee, who does THAT sound like?
