This story came in from AFP today: Sharia law declaration raises concerns in new Libya:
TRIPOLI — The announcement that Islamic sharia law will be the basis of legislation in newly liberated Libya has raised concerns, especially among women, despite Islamists insisting moderation will prevail.
Interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil said on Sunday, during his speech to the nation in Benghazi to formally declare the country's liberation from the ousted regime of Moammer Kadhafi, that sharia would be Libya's principal law.
Oh, but wait, it gets better. A story dated 10/24/11 from
canoe.ca provides this:
Homa Arjomand of the International Campaign Against Sharia Court in Canada said the wives of men who worked under the Gadhafi regime as pharmacists, teachers and other occupations are already being targeted for rape."According to Shariah law, enemies' wives should be raped and they have started raping these women already," Arjomand said.
Mmmn-mmm. The liberation. What's not to love?
