I've spent some time at different OWS rallies and last week I was able to go to Zuccotti Park in NYC.
You'll see more than just college students hanging out in the park, you'll see people of all ages coming from all over the States and globe and every person has a different life story. That's a powerful statement being made. I found myself many times putting the camera down and just talking with those that have made the park their home these past weeks. Everyone I met there was friendly and welcoming.
The 99% is a powerful group making themselves heard. I've been reading the news lately of different Occupy events that authorities have been trying to shut down yet the occupiers still come back and still fight to be heard. It is an encouraging sign that this movement is growing stronger and building a bigger community.
Overall I've had good experiences at occupy events and with each one there's a great sense of community among the occupiers.
While I do take photos and document what's going on with OWS, I'm also part of the 99% and part of this movement. I hope in a way that the photos help build some understanding of what is happening at these events especially for those who can't make out to OWS.
I'll be back in New York soon - hopefully next week.
