I picked up today's USA Today (October 26,2011). The three front page headlines provide a compelling view of the US economy:
COMPANY DIRECTORS SEE PAY CATAPULT
- Part time job ... Fortune 500 directors ... median pay of nearly $234,000 ... 10% jump from 2010
THE FADING MIDDLE CLASS
- As their share of income falls, so do their expectations
- Top fifth of households collected half of US income
- Percentage of US household income collected by the middle class (middle 3 quintiles) is 46.5%, down from 52.7% in 1970
TUITION RISES 8% AT PUBLIC COLLEGES
- 80% of undergraduates attend public institutions
- Earnings dropped across all income levels
- State funding per student dropped 4%
Please tell me if this is your view for America - the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the middle class gets decimated and higher education moves out of reach. Please tell me, especially those of you in leadership positions in the Republican Party, what you are doing about it. Please tell me why the American Jobs Act was filibustered in the Senate and cannot even get a vote in the House.
