The coming of fall brings abundant color, cooler weather and many tasks to be completed before winter sets in. The color is delightful, the cooler weather is refreshing, the chores...not so much. But first a word from our sponsor.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and more importantly through nominations sent to Top Comments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks. When you send in your picks, please include your username and a word or two about why you nominated the comment, and send them in by 6:30 pm Pacific/9:30 pm Eastern to ensure they make the final diary. Nominations can also sent by DK4 messaging directly to the TC group.
Of course, there is the problem of these guys:
Which results in this:
We've got lots of big trees in the area though only one is actually ours. Inevitably, the wind brings piles of leaves from the surrounding homes. When we first moved into our house, we actually raked leaves into a pile and dragged them to a nearby wooded lot, thereby killing both many hours and our backs. Since that time, I've found that it's best to address all those leaves gradually in waves every week or two. Rather than spending many hours attempting to remove the leaves, I now mulch them with the lawnmover and grind them to small bits. In one step, the leaves are "removed" and their pulverized remains provide some nutrients to benefit the lawn.
Other fun fall stuff includes painting our small deck with wood preservative, removal of the a/c unit from the bedroom window, car waxing, snow tire installation, the ritual blowing out of the dryer vent (2x/year!), pulling out the snow shovels from storage, exterior paint touch ups and storage of all warm weather outdoor accroutrements until spring. Sigh. I'm tired already. It's not easy being a snooty northeastern liberal.
Got any fall chores?
On to the nominations:
From koosah:
This comment by NyteByrd1954 perfectly sums up the belief held by the defenders of the 1%. They have put their trust in their corporate masters, but unfortunately for the rest of us, we're getting dragged along for the same ride.
From an Gentle Giant:
I would like to nominate Thor Heyerdahl for a top comment for the comment he made in the Moral Dilemna/Tom Tomorrow cartoon thread.
