I heard this question asked on Bill Maher's show last night, by Cornell West as I recall. Rough paraphrased, it went like this:
We have "Deficit Commissions" -- But where is the "Jobs Commission"?
Jobs, that's what the People want. That's what the People need.
Indeed.
A mile of Deficits could be easily covered by a Country, that was fully, and gainfully employed.
And with thousands of Vets finally returning home from Iraq, will our Country "honor them" with gainful employment opportunities?
Or will they face the same scarcity of opportunities, promoted by, and white-washed by, GOP representatives and GOP candidates alike:
Speaking in Arkansas, Cain addressed his feelings about Occupy Wall Street:
[...]
Mr. Cain is there anything else you'd say to the Wall Street protesters? Yeah, go home and get a job! And get a life! Go home!"

I'm sure returning Vets will be happy to obliged those GOP-do-nothings. They want to work. As do most of those College Graduates, (and 99ers) out there protesting ...
But first, maybe we need to Stop those Jobs from going overseas?
Maybe we need to ACTUALLY start CREATING those Jobs, here at home?
especially after giving those huge Bush Tax cuts to the "Job Creators" for over 10+ years.
And especially considering that ...

Welcome Home Vets!
This is the Land of Opportunity-Stonewalling you have been fighting for.
The Land of the Free, and the Home of 7 Job Applicants for every available job,
Where a listless GOP Congress would rather lay off thousands of teachers and cops and fighter-fighters, than raise even a 0.005% Tax ON MILLIONAIRES. ($500 per 100K over 1M)
That is what America has become, while you were busy taking care of business ... for your County.
Perhaps we need some serious Nation Building, here at home eh?
We have "Deficit Commissions" -- But where is the "Jobs Commission"?
Jobs, that's what the People want. That's what the People need.
Indeed.
Just Google search the phrase "Jobs Commission"
and what we see, is mostly crickets.
Strange priorities we have in this Country ... we'll cheer for, fight for, even pay for (to the tune of Billions) for "Freedom and Opportunities" for other countries, around the world.
Democracy is on the March. There.
But when it comes to "Freedom and Opportunities" for America's own citizens -- Forget about it!
... as far as the GOP is concerned. If it's not about Cutting Govt, or Cutting Taxes for the Wealthy -- They couldn't care less.
The current Democratic Administration HAS a Jobs Creation Agenda. And the current band of GOP Stone-wallers are systematically ignoring it.
"An incredible $147 billion a year is invested by the Federal government in research and development," said Fattah. "That research has led to new products such as antibiotics, plastics, airplanes, computers, microwaves, and bioengineered drugs.
"Innovations like these are responsible for up to one-half the growth of the U.S. economy and are the principal driving force in the nation's long-term economic prosperity.

But from the GOP point of view, it is far easier to Just Say No to Jobs.
To the GOP such Govt Investments are Socialism. It's Big Govt Social Engineering. It's redistribution of (their) Wealth.
... as far as the GOP is concerned ... We are a country of "Rugged Individualists" ... much like Grizzly Bears, fighting for the best perch.
... charming, ain't it?
Go home and get a job! And get a life! Go home!"
That is the GOP platform, if you're out of a Job, it's your own damn fault!
... as far as the GOP is concerned. They are drawn like "flies to sugar" ... as their latest upstart candidate keeps saying this callous stuff:
Don't blame Wall Street, don't blame the big banks, if you don't have a job and you're not rich, blame yourself!
Herman Cain: Occupy Wall Street ... on HuffingtonPost.com Oct 28, 2011
Of course, most of the GOP Wantabees, couldn't read a Budget Chart, if their Jobs depended on it. Because if they could, they'd know it was their own damn party that saddled us with this record breaking debt that we are staring down the frightful specter of now.
All under the guise of Nation Building ... somewhere else ... (that we weren't really doing, either.)
Rebuild Infrastructure here at Home -- Forget about it!
Rebuild and modernize Schools here at Home -- Forget about it!
Promote the growth industries of the Green Energy Future -- Forget about it!
"If you don't have a Job -- it's your own damn fault."
Or so the GOP is trying desperately, to get us all to believe. Wall Street had nothing to do with it!
The evaporation of the American Dream -- happened on someone else's watch.
Or so that stand-up party of No New Taxes would like us to believe. The GOP had nothing to do with it!
Welcome Home Vets!
I hope that your Resumes are in order, not that it will make that much of a difference.
In a land where all the Opportunities to achieve the American Dream, have mostly seem to fled somewhere else, overseas. ... to the many lands which are the homes of cheap and desperate labor.
A desperate land we are rapidly becoming too. ... all for the Fear of, daring to Invest in Ourselves.
