I sit here with tears in my eyes as I read a diary from another DailyKos member. I felt a sense of pride I have not felt in recent weeks. A police officer who voiced his reaction to what is going on here where I live in Denver, Colorado, and what is going on 1,263 miles west of me in Oakland, California.
There are still good ones out there. But they seem in places such as mine to be few and far between. We are already angry with what is going on in other cities in our great nation, with what is going on in our nation as a whole. And so as our right we have come together, in the name of peace, to have our voices heard. Because we have awoken to what is really going on.
For the last 30 years the rich and powerful of the United States have been in a very governmental consented and even undercover effort to move themselves into positions of great power. They have rewritten laws and disenfranchised the rest of the population. They control our media and our education, they do not even teach in full the labor movement in all its glory and hardship. Most students in any history class, until they likely reach college, if they ever get there now, have no idea why we have the FDA and other entities and such. They have no idea that Theodore Roosevelt is responsible for giving us high quality meat products. Had he never read "The Jungle" we probably would have died from something worse than mad cow decades ago.
People are getting angry as they discover the Police, those sworn to protect and uphold the law, write their own. They let people die, while letting bad people go, they have falsely imprisoned people and some without provocation, while serious crimes occur next door, which they aren't even reporting about. The night of October the 15th, I was almost hit by a car at a known problem intersection. In any other case that the police have been called to this intersection the response has been almost immediate. The night of the 15th I was told they were dealing with a "situation" in downtown Denver. Their "situation" was about 100 or so protesters. The citizens, again who they have sworn "To Serve and Protect" are left with no bodyguards. Or the sign we have all seen "While the Police arrest us, Crack is being sold at 3rd and Pike. (Your tax dollars at work)." Their cars should no longer say "To Protect and Serve" but should instead say "To enforce the law by any means necessary, for that is the definition of Law Enforcement." I know there are some good police out there, but what do you do in a land of bad apples.
Here you can see the corruption up close. To us these police aren't the 99. Though they really are. They take all sorts of pay offs and bribes. They buy things the rest of us in "similar paying" jobs cannot afford. The ones we see living like the rest of us are becoming fewer, and it is making us mad. What do you do, what can you say, we see it, but the state government is in on it, and the police protect the media, so who is going to report it. Cases which do get leaked are few and far between, and the fact that the police are willing to turn on their own people, brutalize them, solely to protect the large corporations and silence us should be proof. We feel they no longer serve us. We feel they serve the corporations, the drug war they have created, and the news networks pumping us full of propaganda. They promote fear mongering. When police show up to a demonstration like they did here in Denver on October 15th, the incident on the 29th was the one with the rubber bullets, in full S.W.A.T. gear and full RIOT gear they are intentionally trying to illicit a response. When American Citizens show up, unarmed to assemble to have their voices heard, and the police show up with that response, physiological things occur. Protesters pulse rates rise, so does their stress level as well as their fight or flight response. This is what the police want, they are instigating this type of response, and more and more people are getting tired of the fear mongering, and are going with their fight response to their situation.
When they installed their 800 channel propaganda machine, one in which advertising, and television shows dull our senses and make us zombies. They even at one point tried to end public television, when they gave us another opiate, the forgot one very important thing. We are AMERICANS, this way, this control of us, it has never worked, from this countries beginnings! We are rebels, we always have been, we always will be, that is part of being an AMERICAN. We stand up, now more than ever we need to show how we have evolved.
We stand up in the name of peace, in the name on non-violence world wide, that everyone's voice shall be heard. We should in the best of worlds remain non-violent, and make peace our primary motivator. But I know that is only in a prefect world, the masses are angry, and they grow with each passing day.
In the end... We will not be silenced.
You cannot beat us into submission.
We are the majority,
You are the minority,
Numbers speak!
We are rebels, and we will NOT GO without a non-violent, civil disobedient fight.
None of these are pictures that I have taken, they are taken from current news stories, as well as other Denver residents. None are from Denver Post or the Associated Press.
I apologize for the pictures I have found not working properly, I have tried to re-link/re-do this 3 different times now. I will try again.
