Occupy Charlotte's location is at 600 East Trade Street. this is the old City Hall building.
2+ acres of lawn. It started on Oct-9. I went there that first Saturday afternoon. I would guess there was almost 300 people that came out to check it out that day.
There were no tents set up when the 3:00pm General Assembly started.
this picture shows the kitchen area & tents beyond it.
Like everywhere they used Mic Check to talk to the crowd.
They wanted everyone to know it would be a leaderless occupation.
They went over the Non Violent facts of the movement.
Did the basic things we've all read about being done at the other Occupy locations.
They also stated the the Police didn't see the movement as a threat.
About 4:00pm the group Marched the 6 blocks to Troyn & Trade where Bank of America is located.
The first weekend they didn't have perments to use an amplifier system.
By the 23rd they had that premission.
So on that frist Saturday the crowd got into the chants we've all heard.
We were told that the red pavers were public walk way & to keep a walk way for people to pass by. I would guess we stayed there an hour before marching back to the occupy site. I was there for that the first day. The other 2 times I've been I left early.
A week ago I joined the civilized world & got a cellphone, I picked an Andriod by Motorola. I have some pictures to share of the March & where we stood on the corner this week. The first 2 times I went we were right in front of the bank. This past Saturday they moved across the street, I don't know why. I'll find out why next trip down there.
here is the crowd walking across Trade street.
waiting for the police to allow us to cross the street.
Funny thing happened as we approached this corner. A guy in a white suit with a net over his face walked across about 200' in front of us. next 3 guys in a black out fit with yellow stripes pop out of the crowd in front of us. the 4 walk across the street & I realize they were going to a costome party as a bee keeper & yellow jackets. I tried getting my phone out for pictures but I didn't react fast enough. It was also funny because we were chanting one of the slogans & they were looking at us like we were crazy or something as they ran across the street.
here is where we had a corner to stand & chant the slogans
another picture of the occupy crowd.
It's neat going down there, some of the cars passing blow the horns in support others yell mean statements. Last week I reported in comments that 2 black guys in their 20's were arrested. I asked about that & was told it was for jay walking & they were released without charges, one of them was back to camp out the night of the 23rd.
I took 2 cases of water, some traps, furniture blankets & 2 tupperware containers to store stuff in. I also had a smaller cooler to them.
When I signed in I gave them 20 bucks also.
If you haven't been to occupy in your area, What are you waiting for?
The police have been excellent while I've been there.
There has been 5 cops on bikes riding along watching the crowd & controling the traffic for us. I would say Thank You Charlotte Police department.
