The 2012 election cycle is really heating up and Michigan’s new congressional district lines are causing a lot of concern to incumbents in Congress. Thaddeus McCotter is facing a strong primary challenger in State Senator Mike Kowall. Now the Democrats have the strongest candidate they’ve had in over a decade with Canton Township Trustee Dr. Syed Taj.
Dr. Taj was born in India and moved to Michigan to start a family. He began his career as a medical resident and worked his way up to become the Chief of Medicine at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn.
In 2008, Dr. Syed Taj was elected to the Canton Township Board of Trustee’s where he currently serves as the only Democrat. Dr. Taj has served his community in many different capacities including on the Board of Directors of the Canton Community Foundation and the Wayne County Senior Alliance.
“Spending my entire adult life as a physician, I have become increasingly frustrated with a lack of a clear understanding of today’s issues facing our families and our country. That’s why I’ve decided to run for Congress” said Taj.
If elected, Taj said he would make job creation and protecting Social Security and Medicare his top priorities. “Making sure the private sector is able to create good paying jobs for all Americans should be the primary focus of every member of Congress and it will be mine” said Taj.
Michigan’s new 11th Congressional district includes 28 communities in Oakland and Wayne Counties.
