I have yet to visit our local Occupy gathering mainly because it is not a. 24/7 and b. because I am usually working. Tomorrow however, I shall at least stop by City park here in Appleton WI. to see and hear the general assembly speeches and hear some acoustic open mic.
The crowds have been vocal but numbers are relatively abysmal even with the descent amount of media coverage. Front page photos and local tv news, etc.
The problem may be that the Fox Valley seems to be doing fairly well compared to many other areas of the country. We have Paper makers like Kimberly Clark, Pierce Manufacturing(fire trucks), Oshkosh Truck(army vehicles), a plethera of insurance companies based here. Sure there are many in people here with the same problems being experienced around the country, But just not to the extent that we see in many other areas.
While many around here are quite aware of the Occupy movement and what it stands for I just do not think they either have the time nor realize just how important it is. Plus the fact that many here don't know how to protest or get involved. Lots of horn honking though.
Hoping for a good turnout tomorrow. The Packers are in San Diego so it"s a late game. Who knows. I'll let you know tomorrow.
