Charleston, SC- Members of the Charleston occupation movement are going to propose preparing Nikki Haley impersonators to help advance the dialogue about how superficial changes in state leadership have failed to advance the interests of the bottom 99% of South Carolina’s population.
The idea will be presented to #occupycharleston’s General Assembly meeting at the International Longshoreman’s Hall at 6 pm on Thursday, November 10 for possible approval. The meeting is open to the public.
If the idea is approved and perhaps even if it isn't (we might forge on as rouge element), auditions will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday at the main branck of the Charleston County Library in downtown Charleston. A winner or winners will be selected and members of a possible entourage will also be worked out.
Among the ideas being considered is having our "Neo Nikki" speak strictly in her own, documented words. There is plenty to work with and such treatment can be devastating. It is certainly clear how Not Necessarily Nikki should greet people. It just can't be anything but, "It's a Great Day in South Carolina!" Work her own words for a while and the pattern becomes clear. It's not what Nikki says, it is what she leaves out that matters. After a while a view of the state emerges which amounts to, work, not for much, be positive and do not cause any trouble.
The Ninty Nine Percent Needs Nikki project may make its first appearance at the Second Sunday on King Street event on November 13 in Downtown Charleston if the project comes together in time. If that is successful the project may appear elsewhere around the state in situations calculated to raise awareness about the state’s mounting economic and social problems which have continued to deteriorate on the Governor’s watch.
Governor Haley dismissed the occupation movement in South Carolina as consisting of out of state agitators paid by labor unions shortly after meeting several representatives of Occupy Charleston in a closed meeting with an aerospace industry trade group in late October according to a report in the Associated Press. She is apparently unwilling or unable to recognize this grass roots citizen’s movement of indications of real problems in a state with the nation’s fifth worst unemployment problem. The occupation movement in South Carolina is currently active in five cities in the Palmetto State, including a full time occupation on the Statehouse Lawn in Columbia now in it’s 23rd. day.
A Ninety-Nine Percent Needs Nikki Facebook group has been set up to help pull the effort together. The effort will tweet under hashtag #99nikki on Twitter. People with a background in politics, theater, costuming and communications will all be needed to make the effort work.
