5:44 PM PT: Ron Paul is tons of fun in foreign policy debates. He says water boarding is torture, and that torture is un-American, and never should be done.
5:45 PM PT: Jon Huntsman complains about not getting enough questions. "It gets a little lonely here in Siberia," he says. Well, dude, you are currently polling at 0%, so you should be grateful you are in the stage. However, to his credit, he says water boarding is torture, and that torture is always wrong. Michele Bachmann is pleading with the moderators to defend torture.
5:46 PM PT: Mitt Romney says President Obama was right to order the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki. A few people boo, more people applaud. He segues into a monologue about how America is exceptional, and Obama sucks.
5:48 PM PT: Scott Pelley says "tsk, tsk" to the audience when it boos. Then he gets into a fight with Newt Gingrich, and loses it by backing down. The audience loves when Gingrich beats up on the moderators.
5:50 PM PT: Rick Perry compares China to the USSR. He says China will end up on the ash heap of history, just like the USSR. He invokes Reagan and the Cold War. Does this mean Rick Perry wants a new cold war? Pelley asks Romney how to avoid a cold war with China.
5:51 PM PT: To be more clear, Rick Perry didn't actually say USSR. He said "Russia" in the "1980s". But technically he did say that Russia ended up on the ash heap of history, which is probably news to Russia, which isn't on the ash heap of history. The USSR is. I wonder if Perry knows the difference.
5:53 PM PT: MItt Romney says "something something we're going to stand up to China." Jon Huntsman says Romney is a nuts to want to have a trade war with China. "We should be reaching out to our allies within China" .. the young people. Scott Pelley then interrupts him. And another fucking commercial break. Memo to CBS: If you're not going to give the debate enough time, DON'T DO THE DEBATE!
5:54 PM PT: Cain is getting shortchanged on time, but I'll bet he's happy about that, because when it comes to foreign policy, he can't say 9-9-9.
5:56 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): The liveblogging continues in thread #6.
