Yes, I have one good arm to type with since I broke one in a car accident while going to pick up my daughter from school on Tuesday. It was awful, surgery, lots of x-rays, ct scans and a car that I can't drive anymore. No paid time off, I am not allowed to drive or work until Ortho clears me because they put a steel plate in my left forearm. I can barely walk on my right foot, I have bruises in places I never knew could bruise. I am terrified about how this is going to affect my rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.
The small miracles were that my daughter was not in the car and the other driver was released the same day and had not sustained any major injuries according to my insurance and the officer who interviewed me. I kept asking how the other driver was even as they pried me out of my car.
So, needless to say I have been home a lot.
I have also enjoyed some time with my daughter. She created her own Robot to enter into a contest. Charlotte is a reader, she loves to write short stories and has an amazing imagination. She is also struggling with math.
So when I came across this on Facebook, my stomach turned, I had to check to see if anyone else had objections, no. It has been shared 80 times, liked over 110 times and there are lots of comments, amazingly enough from women bemoaning the heinousness of math.
Not funny. Not in the least. It is not meant just for adults because you know what, our attitudes affect our kids! And the young woman I am raising deserves to live in society where her worth is measured in more than lol's and how many inches her high heels might be.
Not everyone has a natural aptitude for math. My husband and I have been working with our daughter and are considering a tutor. We want her to feel good about school, about her homework and about what she does. We want it to be something she looks forward to and it has been a challenge, but e are doing our best to make that happen.
We also need a society that recognizes why what I just posted is wrong and not funny in the least. It is a cheap laugh that comes at the cost of far too many young women who deserve better.
I also planned on doing special visits for my daughter's third grade girl scout troop with women in sciences. STEM, science, technology, engineering and math drops off for girls at about third grade and there are lots of reasons for it, this doesn't help. I want my daughter and other girls hr age to know that that are capable of so much if they just put their minds to it.
This photo upset me for so many reasons. And by the way, I am so sorry for the typos.
Charlotte's robot and the contest she is going to enter.
