I am a fan of the Occupy Wall Street petitioners. I am not a participant. Medical reasons keep me from participating. But, I am pissed. Ministry of Truth speaks the truth and he is right about OWS and right to be pissed at the corruption and cronyism.
The question now is what next for the movement. Since I am not a participant I am using DailyKos to make my voice heard. Do something big! Do something dramatic! Do something that will get attention.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is big. It has big television coverage and many people watch the parade. The sidewalks are packed to overflowing with parade watchers. The idea is simple. Occupy the sidewalks in front of the viewing stands with signs and placards. Use the parade to make a spectacle. Let the viewing audience know that we are the 99%.
I am not suggesting that the parade itself be disrupted. I am suggesting OWS use the parade to achieve greater visibility. I am suggesting there will be little Mayor Bloomberg and his police can do, because there will be so many parade watchers present. Yeah, take out the batons and bash a few heads before a national audience why don't ya. So the choice for Mayor Bloomberg is do nothing or do nothing.
As for the network covering the event, by occupying the area where they put their cameras they will have little choice other than to occasionally show a sign or hear a chant. They will have to explain.
As to Mayor Bloomberg, well the point can be made he left OWS with little choice. By taking away their occupying grounds, he forced a change in venue. What better venue is there than the gross commercialization that the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade represents?
