Not much to say about this one. On the same day that a new poll shows 58% of Wisconsinites favor recalling Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, someone threw a rock through the window of the Victory Cafe in Madison, nearly striking a patron. The rock hit just above a sign supporting the recall of Walker that was displayed in the window. This is from the Madison Police Department incident report:
Incident Date:
11/15/2011 - 6:39 PM
Address:
2710 Atwood Ave
Details:
On 11/15/11 at approximately 6:30pm, a rock was thrown through the front window of a cafe in the 2700 block of Atwood Ave.
Officers found that the rock was thrown just above a sign supporting the recall of Scott Walker.
In addition, there was a note taped to the rock making reference to voting for Kloppenburg. Investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE...Well, waddya know. Here is a photo of yours truly from yesterday displaying a copy of the same sign that was in the window of the Victory Cafe. I was on the square collecting signatures and singing with the daily Solidarity Sing Along. Hat tip to Lisa Wells, who has done a fantastic job documenting nearly every Sing Along session.
NBC 15 in Madison has the story, with video of the story they aired on their local news broadcast last night, including this:
(the owner of the cafe) says the rock was wrapped in a message opposing the recall campaign against Governor Scott Walker. "People need to know about this", he says. In addition to displaying signs in favor of recalling Governor Walker, The Victory posted last February on its website, "Half-price coffee drinks Thursday for any and all protesters!"
If anyone is near Atwood Avenue today, please stop in to the Victory Cafe and buy a cup of coffee or something.
Let's recap Day 1 of the recall:
Them:Voter suppression, cyber attacks, and rocks through windows.
Us: Peaceful sing alongs, marches, clever signs, signature-gathering.
We're the "union thugs." Go figure.
