Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
Albert Einstein
Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man.
Friedrich Nietzsche
Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.
John Lennon
I am pro-reality. Virulently so. We are supposed to be the reality based community. But reading about how Herman Cain will make out like a bandit by lying to Republican faithful about his intentions and desire to be President makes me stop and think. Then I remember the times I've argued that we're doing the best we can against a bunch of know-nothing Teaparty nutjobs.
Is our insistence on being reality based actually one of our biggest weakness?
Imagine this conversation:
Rich guy 1: OK those Libtards are nuts. They're willing to take down the whole fucking economy if they don't get their precious 'emissions reductions'. It's like all they care about is protecting the environment and they refuse to listen to reason.
Rich guy 2: Yeah shit, and we keep moving to their position on emissions but they keep asking for more, always moving the bar. They all signed that idiot Al Gore's pledge and he's not even an elected government official. Last week I thought we were making progress and then Al Freakin Gore said boo and they all jumped back in line.
Rich guy 1: It's like their ideology trumps the fact we cannot afford to do everything they want. I guess maybe we better give 'em a bit more if we want to avoid catastrophe.
Rich guy 2: Yep
Now replace the above words as follows:
Rich guy for Kossack
Libtards for Teabaggers
Emmisions for tax(es)
Environment for The Rich
Al Gore for Grover Norquist
Sound familiar?
Arguably, it all starts with their side not being fact based. They live and die by their ideology, facts be damned. And it appears to be working for them.
Sometimes I want to abandon principles and go equally batshit crazy on these looneys...
Cheers.
