6:28 PM PT: By the way, when I say Ron Paul owns this debate, I am under no illusion that the Republican base that elected and reelected the team that waged war in Iraq will see it the same way, even though there's a sizable minority on the right that does support his views.
6:32 PM PT: Haha:
Cain who?
Cain the silent.
6:36 PM PT: Michele Bachmann accuses Newt Gingrich of having supported the DREAM Act. Oooh, that would be just like the Rick Perry kiss of death. Gingrich had just gotten through saying we should legalize immigrants here illegally ... but at the same time not giving them a path to citizenship. Gingrich defended the idea of giving people who served in the military a path to citizenship. Bachmann then accuses Gingrich of saying he wants to legalize undocumented immigrants. Gingrich doesn't respond to her.
6:38 PM PT: Romney says "there is no question" that Gingrich's plan "will encourage more people" to come to the United States illegally, comparing it to a magnet. Gingrich now must respond. Paraphrasing: "I do not believe that the people of America will expel people who have been here 25 years." "Let's be humane in enforcing the law," he says.
6:39 PM PT: Perry takes Gingrich's side in the Romney-Gingrich spat. And he keeps on saying "secure the border" and "boots on the ground."
6:39 PM PT: Now Mitt Romney says he agrees with Rick Perry. My head's spinning.
6:42 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): The liveblogging continues in the next thread.
