I've been giving the big guy a hard time lately. Well, for months now, and I think justly. But today is Thanksgiving, so to be fair, and because I think we all really need to cool down right now, I would like to thank Barack and Michelle Obama (and Sasha and Malia of course) for doing the terribly stressful work of living in the White House.
So, thank you, Mr. President, in all sincerity. Tomorrow I'll probably go back to the internet pie fighting. (As you can see from my avatar, I'm kind of handy at it.) But one day out of the year -- well, two, if you count Christmas -- I can be nice. :-)
(List begins in extended.)
Thanks for working to end Don't Ask Don't Tell.
Thanks for expanding health insurance coverage.
Thanks for bailing out the auto workers.
Thanks for the stimulus package.
Thanks for the drawdown in Iraq.
(I'm sure other people reading this, if any, could add more to this list I've just dashed off.)
Many of these things were nowhere near as good as I hoped. Many will, I fear, have bad unintended consequences. But thank you for trying, President Obama. Thank you for working hard. If those turkeys in the Rose Garden can get a pardon on Thanksgiving, surely a guy like you can get one from a guy like me. :-)
