This is a short review of the Kindle Fire. The following are strictly my own impressions.
It's CRAP. In my humble opinion. I am very much NOT an Apple person, but an IPad killer? Dream on, Amazon.
I am an Android developer, I don't know if I ever mentioned that or not. I bought the Fire to make sure my stuff runs on it. I got it the day it was available and next day took it on a weeklong trip.
What's wrong with it? It Doesn't Work. What on Earth is the point of the thing if it won't play the videos you bought? Even if you download them after buying them, it WILL NOT PLAY them without a WiFi connection. Nice thing to find out after you downloaded a whole season of Mythbusters to watch on the plane. Simply refuses to play them. I "own" them, huh, Amazon? Seems we disagree about the definition of that term.
The browser is just as bad. Run the phony Facebook app (it's simply a link to the mobile site) and try to play a video, it fails. Force the damn thing to use the full site, and it works fine.
The hardware itself is OK except that it's HEAVY (REALLY heavy... everyone I showed it to said this) and the sensors are skinned to the bone. No camera, no GPS, no freakin' MICROPHONE. A hilariously undergenerous 8 gig of storage and NO expansion possible. It's not even worth hacking to put the Cyanogen mod or something on without half the sensors and with that piddly amount of storage.
I cannot begin to enumerate the frustrations with this device. I really wanted to like it, too. Feature after feature simply do not work right. I am selling the thing immediately. Your mileage may vary.
