Markos
wrote yesterday about the current threat to the internet—Congress is trying to ram through a bill that would allow corporate copyright holders (the movie, music, and drug industries) to kill sites they deem to be infringing, without a court order.
Since copyright infringement happens at every site that allows user-submitted content, this would have the effect of destroying the entire social web, from the humblest blog, to Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter.
The tech industry has revved up to fight this, but they don't have a fraction of the lobbying juice of the MPAA, RIAA, and Pharma, who have spent $90 million this year lobbying on this bill.
So it's up to regular Americans to fight against those lobbyists using, appropriately enough, social media. That's exactly what we're doing.
