As DKos is a gathering spot for those wanting to elect better Democrats, I am curious why certain OWS supporters are registered users and spend so much time here. I am talking about those who state emphatically in comments that they do not support the Democratic Party and don't believe in change through the ballot box.
Many of these same individuals like to complain about criticism they receive here about the OWS movement. They also like to crow about how they won't be voting for Obama or other Democrats as they are all corrupt.
I really want to know why if you are so committed to OWS and not to electing better Democrats that you don't spend more time on some OWS website where you won't get criticized.
I do appreciate the many OWS supporters who are also committed to electing better Democrats but I have a question for you as well. How can you join a movement that refuses to state exactly what its goals and principals are?
I most commonly get one of two responses to this question. Either the person responding believes that it is very clear what the goals are and claims that I am being obtuse or unenlightened or the other response is that the movement is still young and is still discovering what its goals are. Of course since the movement intentionally allows itself to mean whatever you want it to, both opinions are valid takes on the movement.
From what I can tell of the movement so far, the plan is that the 99% of the people in this country should all get together and decide what they want to do. Whatever they come up with by consensus is what the group will go with. Let's not worry about if the group decides to do something morally wrong or decides to do something violent - the decision cannot be wrong if it is by consensus of the people, right? I mean people in crowds never act irrationally do they? This is the problem I have with a movement that refuses to state up front its principals and what it stands for. Certain things are right and others are wrong and it shouldn't take a consensus vote to decide these. If you want people to sign up and fight for your movement you should be able to state what your movement is about. Simply being angry about the economic disparity in the country is not a movement, it is an angry mob.
Let's not let the Occupy movement distract us from keeping complete control of Washington DC out of the hands of the Republicans. The OWS movement probably won't last very long but the damage that Republicans could do would and there are no recalls available at the federal level.
