I don't celebrate Giftmas. Not being a Christian, I don't celebrate Christmas, except as a guest of Christians. I wish them a deep and abiding joy of their holy day, but if I was asked to work on Christmas, I'd be happy to.
My wish is that I could use that work holiday for something important, like a snow day. I really hate having to spend my vacation days on being snowbound. Around here, Christmas is usually still good weather - at least for driving in to work. and since I'm "essential personnel", I have to try to make it to work regardless of the weather. Last year's 13" snows made that really hard. So my Giftmas wish is that I could work on Christmas Day and use that day for a snow day when needed.
I have to work on Veteran's Day and through Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, President's Day, MLK Day, New Year's, and other holidays. I do get Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day off, but I work all the rest of them. It wouldn't bother me at all to also work Christmas Day.
Itzl doesn't understand the fuss around Giftmas, and I'm with him on that. We don't dare do any regular window shopping and browsing in the days leading up to Giftmas. Grocery shopping must always be done with great planning and care so we don't have to duck and dodge militant power Giftmas shoppers. Sometimes, we band together with others who don't celebrate Giftmas to do essential shopping - protection in numbers.
We did all of our essential grocery shopping for December last week, so we don't even need to do that.
Itzl and I spend a lot of time at work or home during the Giftmas season, not going anywhere else. I suppose one of the benefits of Giftmas is that it saves me gasoline and money spent on impulse buys. Can't buy if we're not out shopping.
This is how Itzl spends a lot of Giftmas:
Yep. Bored. He likes getting out and doing things, and during Giftmas we just don't. So he pouts at me and lounges around with his cuddle toys.
