This is a short diary to remind all of us here of the great need this year at our various local food banks. They are all in desperate straits, what with the lingering recession, and continuing unemployment.
To back up the obvious, recent news that our poverty level is getting worse:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Amid a still struggling economy, more people in America fell below the poverty line last year, according to new census data released Tuesday.
The nation's poverty rate rose to 15.1% in 2010, its highest level since 1993. In 2009, 14.3% of people in America were living in poverty.

The point is---do what you can. Reach out, and lend a hand to support a local (or national) agency----whether by volunteering, or buyng some extra groceries, or dropping a few dollars at the local bank.
The statistics have proven---$5 can go a long way----so please do whatever you can.
