Here's the video of yesterday's visits to the Illinois delegations:

http://www.youtube.com/...

Thank you to Stand Up Chicago for the video and for being here. While occupying Kirk's lobby, they used the time to hold a teach-in/discussion about the economy and the issues behind this week of action. After discussing the role of banks and how foreclosures are ruining their neighborhoods (every single person in the room had at least one foreclosed property on their block; one had 7 in her immediate vicinity), you should have heard the room explode when someone read out Kirk's committee assignments: Appropriations and Banking, Housing and Urban Development.

"You mean he can do something about this and he's not doing it?!" was the gist of the outrage. Many of them had tried to meet with Kirk at his home district office. "We got rejected three times and came all the way to DC to meet with him, and he still won't meet with us." By that time we already knew he was hiding out in the back.

In a couple hours we head to K Street. Follow the action on Twitter #99indc.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

He's Captain Coward, afraid to talk to his own constituents--
unless they pony up the big bucks.

Please get this footage out to the rest of Illinois, so voters know what creeps these guys are.

After I called several times to ask whether Kirk supported what was actually happening in Iraq, they told me to stop calling.

"H.R.W.A.T.P.T.R.T.C.I.T.G -- He really was a terrible president that ran the country into the ground."

I don't know if you're going to Durbin's office, and if you do, here's a subject you might like to bring up to his people.

Durbin has been showing he "gets" the reasoning for accelerating and expediting the redeployment of our troops from Afghanistan, by signing a letter to the President, and by signing on to the Merkley amendment,  yet, these are just words that have no clout, no teeth.  So what is Sen. Durbin actually doing to expedite the redeployment?  Talk is fine, so, what actual effective actions is he making to walk his talk?  He's either doing nothing, in which case you can ask him why he's doing nothing, or, he's doing something, and if he's doing something, what the hell is it?

If you get the chance to ask his people about this, it sure would be interesting to hear what they've got so say!  I can't get any answers from 'em, myself.
