Good morning, gardeners. It has been a challenging semester for me. I am teaching a 120-student introduction to archaeology, and my final exam is scheduled for December 22nd (my birthday, no less). I am also teaching a graduate seminar in archaeological theory for my MA and PhD students at night, and I have been getting home around 10 pm on Thursday. As most of you know, my mom passed away in October after a long illness. Needless to say, we have almost no holiday decorations yet at casa blue jersey. Since my garden is done for the year, and I am not ready to face the seed catalogs until after New Year's Day, I thought that I would post some of blue jersey dad's best flower pictures. Please use this opportunity to post some of your favorites as well. Looking at the old photos gives me some ideas about what I want to plant next spring.
Please follow me below the stylized Cheese Doodle.
Here are a few of my favorites:
I love coreopsis (coreopsi? coreopsises?). They are sunny and yellow. I probably have too many yellow flowers in my garden. The psychologists say that little kids like the color yellow. I guess I never quite grew up:
I have a lot of daffodils. I planted some when I bought the house back in 1985, and son 1 planted a lot more when he was in high school. I will never have as many as Peterhouse College in Cambridge.
You can never have too many roses. My dad loved them too.
My Mohawk daisies suffered a bit because of the weather this year, but dad snapped this picture last year:
My mom always grew a lot of mums. When we scattered her ashes, we drove by her old house. The new owners have taken out all her flower beds:
Dad's family always had a lot of mallows. We started growing them a few years ago:
So bring out your best garden pictures. Show me what you have. Wishing all you gardeners a joyous holiday season and peace and health in the New Year.
