Earth 2100: Civilization at Crossroads
Act 1: Meet Lucy [born 2009], our guide through the next century, as civilization changes.
People are complaining about Economic Crisis we have now -- you haven't seen nothing yet.
If we continue on this suicidal pathway were on: where we basically 'Turn Living stuff, into Dead stuff' -- and call that Economic Growth -- this will look like the good old days.
-- Van Jones
Earth 2100: Civilization in Ruins
Act 10: At the end of the 21st century, Lucy's world has collapsed.
The breakdown will be rather rapid.
The flooding of Manhattan will have a real dis-stabling effect.
The subway tunnels would flood and they will stay flooded.
The columns that hold up the streets -- they're steel, they will rust, they will corrode.
The streets above them start caving in, and lo and behold, we have surface rivers again in Manhattan
Your big sky-scrappers here are well anchored into Manhattan-schists [bedrock] -- on the other hand they weren't designed to be water-logged.
I just takes one Hurricane to hit New York, buildings are going to start getting taken out.
-- Alan Weisman, Author --
The World Without Us
It would be a wrenching transition, it will be a catastrophic transition.
It's something we don't want to experience.
The 'Dark Ages' were called the Dark Ages, for a reason.
-- Joseph Tainter, Author --
Collapse of Complex Societies

The Story of 21st Century ... is yet to be written.
I hope we all write it well. A world where Economic Growth, is based preserving and nurturing Living Things, not exploiting them.
Because the future costs of just 'kicking the can down the road,' ... of just more 'business as usual' ... will cost far, far more than, anyone of us can really afford
... if we continue on the 'economic pathway' were on ...
[End Scene ... Cut Cameras] ... Earth 2100 has finally arrived.
